Community
I’d like to share with you my lifelong dream project. Although it is inspired by my work with clients such as you, it is also inspired by work I’ve done with policy, food security and household food insecurity. It is called Let’s Taste Canada, Our food adventure - a space for people to tell their food story. I shipped my car across the country and traveled across Canada meeting people to talk about food.
Similar to Let’s Taste Life - Let’s Taste Canada is a community that supports a healthy relationship to food - but it is not just about my thoughts - it is about the community’s thoughts. I think of my place within Let’s Taste Canada more as steering the ship to something that is finding its own voice. It also discusses bigger questions about food such as the food system, policies and also one of the topics I am passionate about - food security which I have been involved in heavily since 2008. I am so excited to share all of that I have been learning through the podcast interviews. This is where (as soon as they are released!) you'll find my experiences of food, my excitement of phenomenal programs, interest in food security and the food system, networks of people doing amazing things around food (dietitians, chefs, teachers, universities, and not profits.).
Let's Taste Canada is a community that explores, celebrates and raises awareness about local food, regional dishes, health, food security and sustainability.
Hope you enjoy!
Happy Tasting,
Irena
LET'S TASTE CANADA: WELCOME
By reading this page, you are part of a community that explores, celebrates and raises awareness about local food, regional dishes, health, food security and sustainability. Our discussions include many aspects of Foraging, Farming, Feasting, and Friendship in a fun way. We are developing a healthy fun relationship with food and asking some of the deeper questions relating to the food system in a fun, safe, and respectful atmosphere.
At the end of the day – it is to share anything about food, nutrition and the food system! Stories, questions, life experiences, professional and personal expertise are all welcome – you are now part of the conversation! Let us know about the cool breakfast you had this morning, why you didn’t eat breakfast or what your favourite food memory is!

Here are some of the first few posts:
food reflections inspired by my grandparents
This being the first post of the year, and of the blog’s upgrade, I’d like to dedicate the blog to my family and all of my grandparents. So, I have thought about how all of my grandparents have impacted my relationship with food and what they love.
As I enter the new year curiously, and with love, I always have more questions. Thinking about my grandparents has inspired me to ask you the following questions:
1) Who was involved in your first food memory? ....
Discovering food security the university students perspective - A guest posT
As two university students, we’re no strangers to shopping at No Frills or resorting to an improvised meal with whatever is in the freezer. Moving out from our parents’ homes and learning how to prepare and plan for meals on our own gave us a true “hands on” experience to engage in our own food security decisions. What’s cool about food security is that it can mean something different to everyone, and your definition can evolve and change over time. What we’ve discovered is that our definition of food security emphasizes acceptability, cost and community.
